The first occupants of the latest tranche of Service accommodation moved into their new cabins at HM Naval Base Clyde in October 2016.
The 72 new en-suite cabins are the first of 750 rooms that are planned to be delivered by the end of 2017.
Upon completion the total number of sailors who can be accommodated within the Base will be 3,529.
The new accommodation is part of a multi-million pound investment in the Clyde as it prepares to become home to the UK Submarine Service by 2020.
This includes upgrades being made across the Base’s waterfront, engineering support, living accommodation and physical security, as it makes ready to receive Astute and Successor class submarines in the 2020s and 2030s.
This redevelopment will see every aspect of submarine life based on the Clyde with all 11 Royal Navy submarines and shore support roles based in and deploying from Scotland.
“Each of these new cabins comes equipped with a double-bed, en suite washing facilities, a lockable storage area and Wi-Fi” said HMS Neptune’s Logistics Officer (Support) Sub Lieutenant Andy Pandyan.
“Every wing also features a communal utility room with lockable storage cupboards and improved laundry facilities” added occupant Sub Lieutenant Jim Gallagher.
The key aim of creating this single integrated operating base is to ensure that the Royal Navy is able to deliver its operational commitments from Scotland on an enduring basis.
Already one of the largest employment sites in Scotland, with 6,800 people working at HM Naval Base Clyde, this will rise to 8,200 by 2022.
